New EPD for window films

Solar Gard Window film

Saint-Gobain Solar Gard LLC has issued another EPD for Solar Gard® architectural solar control window films. This EPD adds 14 different window films to the 31 films that was included in their EPD from 2010.

EPDs from 16 countries in the International EPDSystem

Celsa Steel Services OY in Finland have published the first Finnish environmental declaration in the International EPD® System. Now companies from 16 countries have used the International EPD® System as programme operator for their environmental declarations.

Pilot for sustainability indicators in EPDs

As there is a growing interest to include sustainability indicators in EPDs, a pilot study is launched to learn what indicators that might be relevant and how to manage them in the EPD development. The first step will be to include sustainability indicators in the product category rules and the PCR for Pasta has been chosen for this study. A new PCR draft including some indicators related to the sustainability issue is in under preparation and it will be available for open consultation within 2 months. New EPD from Axpo

Lake Klöntal

Axpo AG, the Suiss energy company has published a new EPD. This EPD covers the environmental impacts from the Löntsch high head storage power plant in North-East Switzerland. This EPD is the sixt environmental declaration from Axpo.

Open Consultation - Programme Instructions

The general programme instructions (GPI) for the International EPD System are now available for open consultation. The consultation will close August 31, 2012. The new GPI will start to apply in January 2013.

EPD trends at international conference

How to communicate EPDs, broader sustainability issues as part of environmental declarations, and PCRs for the construction sector were on the agenda at the first stakeholder conference of the International EPD System on 15 May. The conference took place in Stockholm, attracting some 70 delegates from all over Europe, with some delegates from North America and South America. The conference was fully booked weeks beforehand, which prompts the Secretariat to organize a larger conference in 2013.

GEDnet might launch global PCR registry

Currently members of the international umbrella organization GEDnet send in their PCR, and these are published on the GEDnet website, Gednet.org. In the future all PCRs in the world might become available on the website. “Should everyone put in their PCRs or just members? This is not completely decided yet”, said Karin Bagge, Secretary of GEDnet, at the EPD stakeholder conference in Stockholm on 15 May. Currently there are some PCRs overlapping, and one challenge is that there are different rules.
