Upcoming workshop: Discussion of the latest draft PCR for lifts (elevators)

The PCR for lifts (elevators) has been under development since May 2013 with Nikolay Minkov at TU Berlin as the appointed PCR Moderator. During the open consultation, an extensive amount of comments was received.

It was therefore decided to publish a new draft, on which stakeholders are kindly requested to comment upon during a second open consultation (deadline: 2014-06-30). To ensure that no comments are given on requirements set by the General Programme Instructions, please check the list of comments already received and their replies before submitting new comments.

To provide input to the second open consultation, a physical workshop will also be organised by the European Lift Association (ELA) with support by the PCR Moderator. This workshop will take place in Berlin on June 25-26 and will be free of charge. The workshop will aim at reaching a common understanding of all open issues and to provide input to the final draft together with any written feedback provided during the open consultation. Please contact the PCR Moderator, Nikolay Minkov, to register or to receive more information.

After this second open consultation has finished, the final draft will be reviewed by the Technical Committee of the International EPD® System. The final PCR document is expected to be published in early autumn 2014.

New recommendation for PCR Moderators

PCR approval and publication phase

Developing Product Category Rules may be a long process, spanning several months, and involving many stakeholders. Besides the PCR Moderator, the draft document often involvs work performed by different stakeholders in preparing or commenting on the document, the Secretariat and the Technical Committee.

To avoid that any work is done for PCRs that in the end are never published, the Secretariat has issued a new recommendation for PCR Moderators for the Approval and Publication phase:

After comments have been provided by the Technical Committee (TC), it is recommended that the update of the draft PCR is done within one month of the comments provided by TC to avoid any draft PCR to become stalled in such a late phase of its development.

As before, PCR Moderators are encouraged to keep an active communication with the Secretariat during PCR development. This is key for spreading information to other stakeholders via www.environdec.com, the EPD Newsletter and through other channels.

Please contact Kristian Jelse, Project Manager PCR Library and PCR development, if you have any questions on PCR development.
